The Laies go for a stroll

The procession, featuring the giants from the Ciutat Vella district, rounds off the festivities for Santa Eulàlia.

The Laies go for a stroll

One of the oldest and most significant acts of the city’s local winter festival is the ‘Passejada de les Laies’, a parade by all the giants from the Ciutat Vella district, who all change their name to Laia during the festivities in honour of Barcelona’s co-patron. The ‘Laies’ from Pl. Nova and Pl. Pi, along with Laia the little giant, head the procession which sets off from Pl. Sant Josep Oriol and ends up in Pl. Sant Jaume.

Once the entire entourage has paraded in front of the Santa Eulàlia banner on the balcony of City Hall, the giants, accompanied by music from the Cobla Ciutat de Barcelona, will repeat their dance in the middle of Pl. Sant Jaume. The procession sets off from Pl. Sant Josep Oriol at 7 pm and continues along C/ Pi, going on to Pl. Cucurulla, C/ Boters, Pl. Nova. C/ Bisbe, C/ Sant Sever, Baixada Santa Eulàlia, C/ Banys Nous and C/ Ferran before reaching Pl. Sant Jaume at 7.45 pm.
